I don’t know anyone else who has had it done. And on the same leg even! Quite an experience, eh? When I was in childbirth (every time, never with anesthesia) I was reminded of the exact pain I had in my leg for the first few days. I think the apparatus hurt worse than the (first) break (and my leg was like cornflakes of bone splatter in some parts). I still have a floating fibula bone, it never fused. My x-ray is like entertainment for the medical staff when I get one done (recently had bunion surgery, before that I’d broke my right foot three times, the right ankle once more and sprained the right ankle twice). Heh, yup. My apparatus didn’t really hurt too much, as they gave me plenty of painkillers for the first few days. Although there was the part where I dreamt about kicking a soccer ball, and promptly woke up to find leg in excruciating pain. :( And it would always hurt quite a bit when the frame hit or even tapped something, as the impact would transfer straight to the bone inside. My fracture wasn’t nearly as bad as yours. Hit a fence while bicycling and shoe got stuck in a fence, which yanked my leg. I couldn’t move my knee, and it hurt excruciatingly. Figured it was broken, and luckily some folks nearby came out of out their house to go somewhere, and for the first time in my life I was able to answer “no” to the eternal question children here: “are you alright?” They drove me over to my house and when I got there my mom figured I was being overly worried when I said my leg was broken. Propped up a pillow under my leg to support the angle and gave me some advil. Watched some TV and it was still hurting quite a bit and locked in place, so my mom agreed that it might be broken and took me to the hospital. When the doctor saw the x-ray, he couldn’t believe I’d lasted so long on mere advil… I saw what he meant when I looked at the x-ray – the tip of the femur had broken off and slid onto the knee. Luckily though, it was in only two pieces, and so they were able to fix everything up. No flakes hanging out anywhere…
Ah.
